The resident cat

The now demolished (demolished Spring 2018) St. Andrews House on Ardilaun Road was, for about 10 years home to a ginger cat. Ginger was a female red tabby (which is very unusual) who recently passed away, she was about 12 years of age. It seems ironic and sort of fitting that Ginger’s passing happened only weeks after the demolition, perhaps she would never have been happy anywhere else. After all, there’s no place like home!

Ginger began her occupation of the building once all the people had moved out. She wasn’t sociable, preferring to be alone. She was often seen lying in the sun beside the former social housing block. It was her home and she guarded it well. The local cats stayed out of the place because they knew her to be a highly territorial animal. It seemed appropriate to share a bit about Ginger to mark her passing. While it seems that the local cats don’t miss her at all, Ginger will still be missed by somebody on Ardilaun Square.
